Santorini

Amazing memories made on a beautiful island…..time to chill, time to eat & drink and time to explore…!!

Everyone was raving about this island so us Bristolians thought we had better give it some and we were not disappointed…in fact we ended up going back again…Santorini Santorini, so good they named it twice, well ok maybe not ! 😂❤

Getting there ✈ Regular flights available from Bristol International with TUI, EasyJet or from Heathrow with BA direct into Thira. Once there we grabbed a taxi to our accommodation which saved time and didn’t cost a packet.

Accommodation 🏰 We stayed at Hotel 28 in Kamari both times in Santorini and we could not honestly recommend anywhere else. It is a fantastic adults only hotel with a great vibe, amazing staff and fab location just out from the busy beach front but still within a 5 to 10 minute stroll to the beach, shops and the many lovely restaurants.

The laid back pool offers giant floating bean bags, double sun beds and a chilled bar offering cold drinks and delicious snacks. The staff will happily arrange any tours or days out you might be interested in and will also ring to pre book your tables at the restaurants of your choice (a must in high season if you have a preferred place to eat).

The hotel arranged for Quad bike hire which was delivered to the hotel on the day of our choice, very easy and efficient. We toured the entire island in a day from Oia in the North with it’s famous picturesque blue rooftop buildings right down to the Akrotiri Lighthouse in the South. A definite highlight is lunch just outside of Oia in Amoudi Bay with its numerous fish restaurants….just watch out for being charged by weight rather than a fixed price for the seafood ! After lunch (or maybe best before 😀) if you’re feeling brave take the short coastal path to where you can jump off the rocks into the sea.

Continuing on the island tour there are numerous other places to visit such as Red Beach, the old capital Ancient Thera with its many ruins and historic relics as well as the current capital Fira.

Where to eat 🥩🥗…so many amazing places to eat. If you want a traditional taverna with live Greek music then it has to be To Pinakio or for Greek Meze then try one of the many restaurants offering a set meze menu at very reasonable prices and just for a romantic meal on the beachfront then Sea View Taverna delivers the goods. If you fancy a short bus ride up to Fira then you can eat, drink and witness the amazing Santorini sunset in one of the many restaurants….romantic brownie points to be earnt !! 😍

Why not try a date night on the Quad and take the short drive up towards Fira for a stunning meal with a panoramic view over Kamari at Metaxi Mas or a bit further on in Pyrgos visit Franco’s Bar for an aperitivo then onward to a rooftop restaurant at La Scala…..lots of choice, lots of memories and lots of full bellies !! 😀

Things to do 🥂 We had to try a wine tasting evening whilst watching the sunset and what a night. The views at Santo Wines were incredible, the wine plentiful with tasty accompanying snacks and the chilled live music made for a very enjoyable evening.

We also visited the Outdoor Cinema which was only about a 15 minute walk from the hotel and was an experience. The mix of the beautiful setting, cocktail bar, deck chairs and of course the film (in English) was indeed different but very memorable.

A must do is the Boat Trip to the hot springs and mud baths and trek up to the volcano across the bay with a stop over for a traditional lunch….great photo opportunities !

Happy memories in Santorini offering beauty, good food, lots of things to do & places to visit !!❤
